Melbourne

Hello there,

if you’re reading this you’re most likely to visit me soon in Melbourne (and if not: hello to you too, stranger!)

Airport transfer

The easiest way from the airport is to take the SkiBus to Southern Cross station. It takes roughly 30 minutes and I’ll either wait for you at the airport or at the station. From Southern Cross it is around 10 minute walk to my apartment

Getting around town

For using the public transport in Melbourne you need a prepaid myki-card. I have those for you. The system is a little bit counter-intuitive but in general you tap on and off when you use the buses/trams/trains.

Free Tram Zone: The CBD area is the free tram zone, you don’t need to tap on at all as long as you stay inside of it.

What to do when I am not around.

I will most likely have to work a couple of days so I can’t join for everything. Here are some nice things to do then:

In the city:

  • City Circle Tram: the city circle tram is a historic tram wagon that leaves at the station in front of my apartment. It goes around the city center and tells about the things to do at every stop. Nice way to start the trip.
  • Queen Victoria Market: in walking distance to my apartment is QVM. It is a big market for basically everything. Open on Tuesday and Thursday-Sunday from 6am to 3pm/4pm on weekends. Might be touristy and locals would rather prefer going to South Melbourne Market
  • Botanic Garden:
  • Library
  • Old Melbourne Gaol
  • St. Kilda Beach + Brighton Beach
  • Street Art Tour
  • China Town
  • Eureka Tower + Skydeck

With public transport

  • Warrandyte Park
  • Dandenont Ranges (Puffing Billy Railway, 1000 steps)
  • Ballarat, Sovereign Hills

With a car

  • Great Ocean Road, Twelve Apostels
  • Philipp Island + Penguins
  • Healesville sanctuary
  • Yarra Valley + Wineries
  • Stars
